WRECKS - RELITTI

Shortly after moving to Medway, I began taking long walks along the River Medway. I immediately noticed the many shipwrecks that dot the banks of the river, and they filled me with a certain melancholy. I've been seeing them for years now, but my feelings remain the same. They lie there, forgotten, and almost no one even knows their names or what they were once used for. Some are truly imposing and speak to me of a past that, if not glorious, was at least useful and purposeful. Now they remain standing still, rusting away while life unfolds around them: the tide rises and falls, plants sway in the wind, birds perch or flutter around them, visitors glance at them distractedly or, conversely, "decorate" them with disrespectful graffiti. They crumble in the mud, blending in with it, covered in algae and silt.
Looking at these wrecks, I grasped a metaphor for life. Like boats set adrift and then run aground, the lives of many people end up surrendering to the ebb and flow of the tides and the passage of time, which corrodes everything. With this project, I would like to convey a sense of immobility, while the rest of the world continues to move around these wrecks, the sense of something that has been left behind, abandoned, betrayed.
